With the wood removed from the old fence my husband made a new chicken shelter to replace the dog crate shelter.
This is much better as it can stay permanently in the run and the girls can dust bath underneath it, sit on the shelf inside or sit on the top. This means that they still have the same space but would be sheltered from cold and wind in winter, that is if they would go in it.
Peaches and Barley liked to sit in the old shelter on cold, wet, days so this would mean the little girls would have another place to go.
The bigger girls are always the nosiest but I am sure the little girls will find it eventually. It will be interesting to see if any of the girls use it.
Your girls must be the best looked after in the world.I keep seeing people on tv, their
hens are in little cages, no perches, Ifeel so sorry for them.
I think our girls are spoiled but you have pets to spoil them. I agree, it’s a shame when you see how some are kept. I want our girls to have the best life I can give them.
Oh, then hens are going to love that.
I must confess I drive through our neighborhood and stop to look at what people have put out on the curbs to see if I could use it in the chicken run.
I love it when we can re purpose something. When we knew the fence was going to be replaced my husband was initially a bit annoyed that we had spent money on the wood only last year and now it would need to come down. Then he decided to make another chicken shelter and felt so much better to have a use for the wood. I am really pleased with the shelter and hope that next winter it actually gets used as it’s meant to be used but even if not the girls like to sit on top and they like to dust bath underneath.
