Speckles comb

This is another post inspired by one of David’s comments. He mentioned Speckles comb being less red than it used to be and I said that I thought it wasn’t as big as it used to be.

I decided to compare photos of Speckles comb at this time of year two years ago and today.

I took the following photos this morning.

I was surprised to find that Speckles comb actually isn’t as different as I had thought it was. I think the differing redness depends on the light and the the size of her comb depends on the camera angle and shows up best in close up.

She doesn’t look at all bad for an older girl.

You are right, Carol – your incredible database of photographs does show that things are not always as we sem to think. She is gorgeous and so calm in temperament – as a boy, I remember thinking that my uncle’s Ancona bantams were really flighty – but then again, perhaps that’s my memory not being accurate – I’ll have to ask my father if he remembers! Thanks for researching and posting.

The thing I love about keeping a blog is that I have a photographic record. Speckles was the most timid girl when we first had her and is so different today. She was so timid of me and firmly bottom girl whereas today she is a confident top girl and around me she is so easy. To get a close up today I just picked her up and plonked her on the nest box so that I could take a close up photograph of her. She follows me around and jumps on me and chats to me and is far removed from the shy girl she was when she first came to us. I am sure that your memories are correct as Speckles is a very different girl than when we first had her. I remember thinking that she was so nervous of me and yet now she is more attached to me than any of my girls have ever been.
