Floppy combs

Only a few days ago I was speculating whether Peaches and Barley would have floppy combs. In just a few days they have gone from upright to starting to flop.

Barley has one prong leaning while the rest is still straight up

Peaches face and comb are starting to get the leghorn look

In fact her beak and proud chest all have that typical leghorn look now. My girls are maturing.

Wow! what a difference in such a short time. Peaches especially . You have a mini
    Blossom . She looks beautiful.

I know, it’s only been a few days since I took the close up of their combs standing up. She is looking more like Blossom. I think because Barley is slightly smaller she is a little behind Peaches and her comb will probably flop over the next few days. At the moment it makes it easier for me to tell them apart but I’m sure that won’t last.

They are classic leghorns and beautiful birds: those combs say ‘business’; looking at how well they are, I’d be amazed if you haven’t had an egg within a couple of weeks. We had black leghorn bantams more years ago than I care to remember. They were excellent layers, but less tame and less appealing than your two beauties.

That last photo reminds me of the cartoon “foghorn leghorn” (from my childhood), don’t know if you ever saw it but he was white and just this shape.

I am hopeful to have two good layers as apart from Sparkle none of the rest of them are.

They were so skittish to start with but are now very inquisitive. They like to get on eye level and will get in the apple tree or coop roof when I am near so that they are eye to eye with me. They like to come to me on their own terms and it’s fine for them to come to me but not for me to go to them. They are ridiculously speedy. I am just happy that they like to come to me though. They get so close and I chat to them face to face but no way do they want to be touched.

Just got to love them though.
