With the loss of Sugar my journey with seramas was at an end. I had decided not to have any more as they were so delicate and mostly not long lived. Sugar was my last serama and the oldest one at five years old.

Her going left me with six remaining girls which were all Pipinchick girls. But now I had all the breeds from Pipinchick that I liked and it was time to find a new breeder.

Our current flock of six before adding two new girls

We have back, left, Gold and to her right Mango. They deliver to farms around the country for you to collect them from and our nearest was Pangbourne, Reading.

We bought home a citron sebright and a silver Dutch bantam They settled in beautifully.

Ginger a citron sebright

Silver a Dutch bantam

They were four months old and would remain in the separated part of the run until they were old enough to move from growers pellets to layers pellets and then be integrated with the rest of the flock. We were back to my favourite flock number of eight.

These two girls joined the rest of the flock with no problems at all.

On 3/3/26 we had two new girls delivered by Pipinchick. Although we still had eight girls I had been keeping an eye on which breeds Pipinchick had for sale. They now had a gold sebright for sale which I had always wanted. They also had a gold pencilled wyandotte which I had also wanted for a while. I ordered them in January for delivery in March when they were four months old.

Popcorn a gold pencilled wyandotte and Maple a gold sebright

They settled in really well and even put themselves to bed in their little coop on the first night with no help from me. They will be integrated with the rest of the flock once they can be moved from growers pellets to layers pellets. They are a lovely addition to the flock.

The new girls integrated beautifully and Popcorn laid her first egg on 3/5/26.

Sadly we had to have Silver put to sleep on 5/5/26. She was only a year old. She was either standing and twisting her neck or sitting hunched with her eyes closed and I then realised she had also stopped eating. I took her to the vet. All her vital signs were good and the vet was at a loss as to what was wrong. She gave me antibiotic and pain relief to be given to her beak. I also bought some vitamin E/selenium gel to give to her beak and also tried massaging her in case something was stuck and I gave her scrambled egg.

After she ate some scrambled egg she started twisting her neck again. After four days of med’s there was no improvement and she had stopped eating all together but stopped twisting her neck causing us to think that something was twisted or blocked. We dropped some food into her beak but we knew if she couldn’t eat she would have to be put to sleep. It was so sad and so upsetting. She will be very much missed.

I thought it was time to start a new page.
