Flame is moulting

Flame has gone broody twice in quick succession but come out of it after four nights in the broody crate. This has triggered an early moult.

I am fairly confident that Flame will start laying again once she is through her moult. I guess she is getting it done sooner rather than later.

At least this way hopefully she won’t moult again when it’s cold! xx

That’s true. I thought it was really early so looked back at last year and was surprised that both Flame and Speckles moulted in July so it’s only a month earlier. Flame laid again so I think she will this year and Speckles hardly ever laid anyway, bless her. xx

She’s look pristine, when done. I have 2 moulting now and it seems to be fairly common that going broody later in the season often triggers a moult once they come out of it.

Considering how many feathers I am picking up Flame looks reasonably tidy at the moment. Sometimes I think a staggered moult is better than all the girls at once. Less feathers to pick up at a time.
