Peony

Our peony is one of the shrubs that was already here when we moved in ten years ago. I have never photographed it though as it takes ages for the flower buds to open and then just as they reach their peak it goes over. It’s a shame that the flowers, although lovely, are so short lived.

This year I thought that I would try to catch it.

The peony is in bud

It’s about to burst open

The peony is fully open

It will be like this for a few days and then the flowers will drop. It’s lovely while it lasts though.

Oh, sooooo pretty. My hens ate all of my Peony’s this year. But I’ve discovered they don’t like Snap Dragons or Penstimon so I’m going to the nursery today to get more of those.

    • I took the last photo just in the nick of time. It rained heavily after that and when I next went out the peony was completely flattened. It has a hole in the middle now. Oh well, nice while it lasted. Interesting that you have found a few things the girls don’t like. I was surprised that mine don’t like the mint.

I thought i had answered this blog, We have had the same here today, the heavy
rain have brought down our big red poppies, we were out there in the rain today
trying to stake them up. Every year it happens, just when they look their best.
    Such a shame.

    • It is such a shame. The flowers that have the biggest and most amazing blooms just don’t last. They are here one minute and flattened the next. Every year I hope they will last and then they are gone. We have to enjoy the small time frame that they peak.
