Blubell now Blossom has blossomed

My friend Jackie has just returned from her holiday and I went to pay a visit to her girls so that I could do an update on Blossom. Blossom was Bluebell when she was with me but Jackie already had a Bluebell in her flock so she renamed her Blossom.

Jackie first showed me a wasp nest in her walk in run. As it’s the end of the season the wasps haven’t been very active so she is leaving it until the weekend to have it removed. We admired it’s beauty.

Blossom was in the nest box getting her egg laid so I took a photo of her in case she wasn’t out before I left.

It wasn’t long before Blossom had laid her egg and returned to the flock for a spot of scratching.

Jackie decided to dig some worms for the girls.

It is good to see Blossom so happy and her little crest has regrown. She is a happy and settled member of Jackie’s flock and I know that she is loved. I also like that I get to visit her. This is a happy ending for both Jackie’s flock and my flock.

Oh that is lovely! I just love the photo of Blossom in the nest box / dog kennel . She really did settle in well with my other girls. People said it was not easy to add a chicken to a flock b ut she settled in so well after a week of being separated from the others . They accepted her straight away and all is well.
I didn’t expect it to be so easy.

I am so very glad it was easy because I would have felt awful and guilty if it had have been difficult.

You taking Blossom really set me on the path to sorting out my flock and my flock are so much happier for this. I am so pleased that you were happy to take her and that everything has worked out so well.

Awe, it warms my heart to see her in such a happy place. I’ve dealt with my share of bullies and given them away and I don’t hear back from the people I gave them to. I can only they have lived lovely, happy lives like yours.

She was such a bully in my flock and hated the bantams and was vile to them but Jackie always says how sweet she is and has never pecked another flock member. That was how she was in my flock until I got the bantys. She just couldn’t tolerate the little girls. She in turn was getting plucked by Pepper and Dotty so she has also got a better life now that she is no longer plucked.

I think her life is so much better because she doesn’t need to keep bullying the bantams and she isn’t getting plucked by the big girls so it’s a double win win for her and Jackie loves her as much as I did (before the frustration of the bullying). I am just so glad that she has a lovely home with Jackie and her flock.

A lovely integration story: good decision on your part, and well done to Jackie.

I am so lucky to have Jackie as my chicken friend and her love of Bluebell (now Blossom) from the outset of our friendship was a big factor in this re-homing or as Jackie says “adoption”. The fact that she had always favoured her among my flock went a long way to the decision. When I complained about the trouble she was bringing to my flock and Jackie said how she loved her it lead to me saying that in that case she could have her if she wanted her. I said it in jest but when she said “Okay” We both thought “Hey, could this work!”. The rest is history. A very happy outcome for all of us. Tears shed along the way (by me) but in the end everyone is happy. Now I couldn’t be more happy by this outcome and I know Jackie is happy with it too. We have a bond, chickens have brought us together.
