Christmas Mug

I am experiencing a bit of a lull with my blog at the moment so I thought I would share my new Christmas mug.

It’s not only pretty but it’s, fine bone china, so lovely to drink from too.

The girls are all fine but I just haven’t managed to get any good photos. The mornings have been frosty again and I have had to defrost the waters but the girls don’t seem to be bothered by the cold.

Rusty checked out the grit container this morning and I felt a moment of excitement (eggs soon?) but I think it was probably just curiosity.

It will be a month Friday that we lost Pebbles and I keep anxiously checking the girls but they all seem in good health so I am becoming more positive that the flock is going to be okay.

I would like to add a couple more seramas to the flock at the end of January when the six weeks contagion period has passed and hopefully the weather has improved. I can’t wait to add new girls but I know that I must be patient.

I am looking forward to having a flock of eight girls once more and I think four bigger girls and four little girls will be a nice balance. I am also looking forward to the day when we have eggs once more.

The weather is supposed to warm up later this week so that will be good too. The days are also getting slightly longer so we are going in the right direction. I am looking forward to better times with our flock this year.

Very nice your chicken mug. Glad to hear the girls are all doing fine. Shoud’nt wish our life away, but roll on spring.

Lovely mug – I have a couple not dissimilar, from previous Christmases/birthdays. I am wondering if the ban will be lifted tomorrow, or if DEFRA will extend it. As I’ve been having some problems with a cat, I’ll be keeoing mine in for now, regardless.

    • I was also wondering about the ban. On the Down The Lane forum they have been discussing it and say that there have been several outbreaks of bird flu around the country. Luckily for me our run is fully covered so not a problem but it is worrying to know there have been outbreaks around the country.

We are plagued with cats in our garden and even the sticks on our veg plot haven’t stopped them. They are knocking the sticks over and continuing to poop on the veg plot. Grrrr!

We’ve been lucky until now – I know they can cause damage to gardens and leave their calling cards – my father has had problems for a number of years.

    • We have always had the entire neighbourhood cats in our garden, leaving their calling cards as you say. The gardens around us are set to lawn or patio areas, so our garden has more soil which attracts them. It’s the constant clearing up the cat muck that bothers us. We have tried everything in the past to put them off but nothing works. They have been known to poop on top of netting, on top of low shrubs, in plant pots and they push the sticks over and go between them. It’s a constant ongoing battle. I am glad my girls are protected from them in their run.
