The day the new girls arrived

The day before the new girls arrived Silver was the only girl to lay. We are on an every other day cycle with egg laying at the moment. The day the new girls arrived we had another, six egg, day. Storm, Gold, Ginger, Red, Cloud and Mango laid.

All this happened while the new girls settled in but I felt the arrival of the new girls deserved it’s own post to introduce them.

I finally managed to catch Cloud in the nest box
Gold shares a nest box with broody Snow
Ginger joins Cloud in the nest box
Cloud, like Mango, puts pine shaving on her back
Red is next to share the nest box with broody Snow
Mango shares a nest box with Cloud
All this happened during Popcorn and Maple’s arrival

And, the most amazing thing, when I went to check at dusk, the new girls had put themselves to bed in their little coup. I don’t think we have ever had new girls put themselves to bed on the first night. I was absolutely blown away by this.

This has been the most amazing start. Hopefully this means they will put themselves to bed every night. This has been the easiest start ever and I am so happy with how things are going.

What great news. The girls all lot so sweet in the nest boxes together.

They do look sweet when they share nest boxes. I have opened the hatch and closed the gate so that the new girls have half of the run instead of the smaller bit. They have already ventured out into the bottom end of the run.
