Jasmine’s first egg

Eggs are coming thick and fast at the moment. This morning when I poop picked the chicken shed I found another egg, this time under the silky girls’ perch. As Jasmine has been practising and I have never seen Sienna in the nest box I am concluding that it is Jasmine’s egg.

The egg is a normal size this time. As the morning went on Jasmine returned to the shed a few times as if she wasn’t sure she had laid it. This often happens on a first egg, from the perch, first thing in the morning.

And here are photos of these two lovely, newest laying, girls.

Salmon

Jasmine

Only Vanilla and Sienna to go now. We are going to have so many eggs which is lovely and something I didn’t expect at this time of year.

Well done Jasmine!! I’m quite envious reading of all this egg-laying malarkey – I haven’t seen one for months and months!! xx

I am pretty amazed by it myself. I have only ever before had two or three girls coming up to lay for the first time so having seven is totally different. Because silky girls take longer to mature it has meant the whole lot starting together. I really expected them to wait until spring so this has been a total surprise for me. I wish could wing some eggs over to you. Mind you, you wouldn’t want the tiny ones! I have also been surprised that Ebony has continued to lay as I didn’t expect her to be a first year girl. xx

    Two very good looking girls.

They are both very pretty. Salmon is very friendly and easy to photograph but Jasmine is really shy and doesn’t look happy at me taking her photo. They all have such different characters.

They are in beautiful condition; enjoy the eggs. We had 7 eggs today, and only Cotton is broody (might be a different story tomorrow!)

Wow, that is a lot of eggs! We are getting a maximum of four a day at the moment but new layers are still starting so it will increase and then later in the year when the others come back into lay our total will go up. I wonder how many broody girls I will have! With a bigger flock I may have to just leave them to it as there will be so many girls needing the nest boxes so it will no longer be possible to shut a broody girl out. It will be an interesting summer.
