I opened a nest box and the three broody girls piled in.
I have now solved this problem. Both Maple and Cloud have been laying their eggs in the nest box that’s out in the run. For some reason the broody girls don’t see that nest box as one to sit and brood in. Therefore I am now keeping the other nest boxes closed.
Maple and Cloud are the only two laying girls at the moment and I don’t expect Cloud to keep going much longer. Cloud stopped laying last year during the first week of July. I was very surprised that she has started laying again.
All eggs are a bonus at the moment.

My laptop has died so I will be unable to post or read and reply to comments for a while. I hope to be back soon.
Hope you get sorted soon and that the broody spell comes to an end. Fewer and fewer eggs here and a sharp increase in feathers all of a sudden. I’m away from Thursday for a fortnight, so will catch up on return, if I am unable to follow from abroad.
I realised I can comment on my phone but it’s so small that I can’t blog plus I can’t use photos without a laptop. Both Red and Snow seems to have started moulting so eggs are in very short supply here. Only Maple and Cloud laying and Cloud is past her usual stop time so will probably stop soon. As you are the same I think it must be down to the hot weather. Have a good holiday and hopefully I will be up and running when you get back.
I forgot to mention Gold also moulting with just one remaining tail feather.
This weather is enough to put them off laying.
The weather seems to have caused lots of broody spells followed by early moulting. Only Maple and Cloud are laying. I have had to buy eggs which I have never done at this time of year before.
It’s taking longer than expected to get a new laptop up and running. Hoping to be back soon.
