We have snow

We have had a spell of frost and freezing temperatures along with the rest of the country. I wasn’t expecting to wake up to snow this morning though. It hadn’t been forecast for us and it took us by surprise.

We woke up to this, this morning
We weren’t expecting this

The chicken run is a bit dark. Apart from the seramas this is the flock’s first experience of snow.

I have been emptying the chicken’s water at the end of each day and filling it in the morning as it easier than defrosting it. Over the last few days I have had to defrost it half way through the day as our daytime temperatures have barely got above freezing.

I will be glad when this cold spell is over and I am sure the girls will too.

It all looks very pretty, but can well do with out it. Ellie tried to run back indoors this morning, she did not like the frost, She was ok when we got off the common onto the road. Goodness knows what she will be like with snow. She hates the rain as well.

I don’t think the chickens are impressed either. Recently they have had some sun on the branch perch above the ladder but today the entire run is dark and gloomy. I don’t blame Ellie not liking frost or rain.

I’ve been bringing to waterers in overnight, too. The frozen ground is not pleasant for our girls.

I have also had to defrost again at midday each day. I hate seeing the frozen ground for the girls although they do use the perches and the shelter. I am so glad it is due to change soon.
