Egg shapes

Yesterday Snow laid her second egg this year, two days after her first one. It was long and torpedo shaped. We have always said that there is no mistaking Snow’s eggs because they have a very distinct shape.

Red laid today, also two days after her last egg. Red has spells of laying every other day and then she slows down again. She may continue to lay every other day when we get into spring.

Last year Snow laid every other day most of the time and sometimes two days running in between so she probably will again once she gets into her stride. She was a good layer last year.

It is lovely having our own eggs again and I am sure there will be more girls laying soon.

Very distinctive; always nice if you can spot a layer. Snow is what we would all like: a consistent layer – when you know the pattern, you can anticipate and know what to expect 🙂

I’v always enjoyed being able to tell which girl has laid which egg. Red’s always have a tell tale blob of poop of them which isn’t as nice as the torpedo shaped egg.

Sugar is a little fighter – she’s had lots to content with, but does seem to bounce back. Hope you get on top of it on a permanent basis.

I lost Blackie on Monday – lost the use of her legs of Sunday and died the next day. That said, she was hatched 15 September 2015 by none other than the late Cotton and she’s had several batches of chicks herself.

Sugar has had everything going, so much more than any other chicken we have ever had and yet keeps bouncing back so I am hopeful she will overcome this too. She really is a little fighter and we are all the more fond of her because of it.

So sorry you lost Blackie but she was a really good age.

Don’t worry at all about your comment being on the wrong post, it doesn’t matter at all. I am just glad you are sticking with it despite the problems.
