An even hotter day

Today is even hotter than yesterday. London has reached a temperature of just over 40 degrees c/ 105 degrees f which has broken all previous records.

All the girls have been beak panting today. As well as doing all the same things as yesterday I also gave the girls frozen slices of melon. This went down very well.

Some slices of frozen melon for the girls
The melon went down really well
I don’t know why Salmon didn’t join in, she is just beyond the patio area

I am glad that this is the last day of the very high temperatures as I don’t like to see the girls struggling with the heat. I am sure the girls will be glad to get back to normal.

It has been really hot. I still have the tarpaulin up, which has given a lot of shade and have kept them going with cold drinks and treats. I’m pleased my current 3 broodies are in the crate, perching: it would be even worse if they hunkered down when it is so very hot.

We are the same, tarpaulin gives shade plus the shelters and tables. Also the run gets the sun in the morning but is in shade in the afternoon because of the trees/woodland behind our back fence. Even so the temperature has been so high for the past three days. Better today though. I am just glad I have no broodies for the moment. As you say they are better perching.

Nice pictures of the girls enjoying their cold treats.

I know the chooks are as glad as we are for the lower temperatures. Sugar had just started laying again and then stopped during the hot days. Now it is cooler she has started laying again.
