Our first, four egg, day of the year

We now have five out of eight girls laying. I think Snow will be next to start laying as she has been having a quick in and out of the nest boxes over the last few days. We started the year with a few, three egg, days and have have had several since but yesterday was the first, four egg, day of the year.

Yesterday we had eggs from Red, Gold, Ginger and Silver. Ginger and Silver were being very noisy as they both wanted to lay in the same nest box at the same time. Ginger settled in a nest box and Silver watched her from the ramp. This caused Ginger to shout very loudly. She doesn’t like being watched.

Eventually they settled in two nest boxes. I realised looking back over my recent blog posts that I hadn’t actually taken a photo of Ginger in the nest box so I returned to check on her with my camera. I just happened to catch Ginger standing over her egg. A few minutes later I returned with my camera to check on Silver and also just happened to catch her standing over her egg.

All was quiet once the girls had laid their eggs. They do seem to all want to lay at once. Well done girls.

It’s such a bonus when they lay! Really good to hear.
