I have got a bit behind with blogging. The loss of Silver threw me.
After the two soft shelled eggs from Popcorn in my last post she then laid again a few days later and again there were two eggs, one soft shelled in the run and one with a hard shell with just a soft spot in the nest box.
Since then Popcorn has got into her stride and has laid a normal shelled egg every other day and they are gradually increasing in size.
Meanwhile seven days ago Snow came back into lay after a break of twelve days followed by Gold who came back into lay seven days ago after a break of seven days.
Mango and Cloud went broody together five days ago but have now come out of it. Mango had laid nine eggs in fifteen days and Cloud had laid eight eggs in fifteen days. They seem to set each other off and remain in sync.
Storm went broody ten days ago after laying seventeen eggs in two months and came out of it five days ago. It seems to be a constant round of broody girls.
Maple is now squatting and has occasionally had a twirl in a nest box so I think she is getting close to laying.

These three eggs were laid on the same day as Popcorn laid her first normal egg after her blip.

Popcorn’s eggs are gradually increasing in size.

Popcorn seems to like sharing a nest box. This was three days ago and today she shared a nest box with Snow. Seeing them side by side like this you can see that Popcorn is smaller than Red.
We now have Snow, Gold, Ginger, Red and Popcorn laying at the moment but have a reprieve from broody girls for now although not for long I’m sure.
In other news Maple has been perching at bedtime every night. She goes in early to get her place and is always on the corner perch. Sometimes she is on her own and sometimes with another girl but so far always on the corner perch.
Popcorn continues to sit in the corner at bedtime and I lift her to the perch each night. I think she goes in too late to easily get a spot. So that is the news in the chicken run all up to date.
