I decided to harvest our corn on the cob as I think it’s too late in the year for them to fill out and I don’t want to lose them if we have a frost. I decided they would have to go to the chooks.
Yesterday I put them on the chicken’s patio.
They decided these were not good and ignored them. I decided that they must need cooking as they were probably too hard for them. I gathered them up and cooked them then returned them to the chicken’s patio today. My girls are so spoilt! This got a totally different reaction.
They had the corn stripped from the cobs in no time. I left them there for the rest of the day as they like to go back and peck them some more. At least they weren’t wasted.
Ah, Good times were had by all. And I love seeing hens as spoiled as much as mine are.
They all look so pretty.
We just can’t help spoiling our girls. They do look good now that moulting is almost over. Honey just needs a bit more length in her tail and then all will be back to more or less normal.
Your ladies are gorgeous! We let our chickens into the spent garden and they love pecking at the corn stalks at the leftover ears. From my kitchen window I only see the tops of the stalks and when they start moving I know the chickens are in the garden!
Thank you. I think they are gorgeous too but then I am biased of course. I can just picture your corn stalks moving.
They can strip a corn cob much better than us humans!
You are right there. At the end of the day the cobs are bald and smooth. They continue to peck at them long after all the corn has gone.
