Butterscotch is my star winter egg layer. She laid at first light this morning after missing a day yesterday. For a bantam girl her eggs are a good size. They are only fractionally smaller than a medium shop bought egg.
A medium shop bought egg on the left and Butterscotch’s egg on the right. Thank you Butterscotch.
Yes – it is a good size and a nice shape, too; a few of mine lay eggs of similar size and some were bigger than the pullet eggs we bought at our local breeder’s a couple of weeks ago. Laying is picking up here – 6 today, the most since 11th September. Cotton is teeming them out – no doubt a prelude to broodiness in about a week!
I feel the same with Butterscotch as you do with Cotton. It’s great while it lasts but you know broodiness is just around the corner!
